For
Marie Manisha, whose homeland of Burundi is still
recovering
from war, good communications is essential to
life
itself.
“Without communication,
there is not life,”
she said.
Marie
and 27 other United Methodist communicators
from
across Africa learned a great deal about
communications technology and techniques during an
intensive 2-week training that was sponsored by United
Methodist Communications and supported by donors to
the
Foundation.
In the opening worship for
the training, Tafadzwa
Mudambanuki urged
participants to listen to the words of
Isaiah:
"Arise,
shine, for your light has
come, and
the glory of the LORD rises
upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1
“This
training
is a godsend
for the people of Africa.
This
training is
about changing your circumstances through
the realization of the power of the light
of our Lord Jesus
Christ. This is about confronting the
status quo with the
power of light. Your sunshine has
come.
Rejoice and be glad.
The lord has sent you here
to be the light of your
family, to be the
light of your
community, to be the light
of your church… training is light
in itself,” Mudambanuki
said.
Stories of Hope
from
the 2006 Africa
Communicators Training
We are pleased to share with you stories
and
photographs from this historic gathering.
“We are not only
making history, we are
beginning a
relationship with one
another that will create a network of
communicators
in the United Methodist
Church
to tell the whole story of the
church to the whole
church and to the
whole
world.”
