S. M. Moore Jr.

S.M. Moore Jr. is a professional leader, civic leader and family man.  He resides in Abilene, Texas and has made an imprint on the city’s outdoor advertising industry for more than 40 years.  In that time, he has donated millions of dollars in advertising space to hundreds of community causes.

Mr. Moore owned and operated the Mid-West Company in Abilene.  He eventually expanded his businesses to include Big Country Bulletin, a painted outdoor advertising company; Media Texas, a full-service advertising agency, and Catclaw Communications, the company that purchased and operated KTXS-TV, the local ABC affiliate.  The Mid-West Company and Big Country Bulletin sold in 1999 and KTXS sold in 1998 and now Moore is semi-retired.

Mr. Moore has worked tirelessly as a volunteer for a variety of efforts.  He served as fund-raising chairman for the Meals on Wheels campaign to build a new state-of-the-art kitchen facility in Abilene.  He has also served on the board of directors for the West Texas Fair, Abilene Philharmonic Association, McMurry University and Hendrick Home for Children, and has been a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Abilene for 50 years.

Mr. Moore is a graduate of Mississippi State University.  He attended officer candidate school at the Naval War College in Newport, RI, and did graduate work in outdoor advertising at Notre Dame.

Mr. Moore and his wife, Portia, have two children, Meaders and McDonald, and are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.
